I’m Norm McCord, a student and employee balancing academics and professional responsibilities. I am a senior at Kennesaw State University pursuing a BBA in Information Systems. I’m also a veteran, having retired from a 20-year career in the United States Air Force, where I specialized in aircraft maintenance and advanced to advising commanders in senior roles. That experience taught me discipline, leadership, and the importance of aligning people, processes, and technology to achieve mission success.
Today, I am building on that foundation by focusing on the intersection of business and technology. My studies emphasize information systems, cybersecurity, and digital transformation. Alongside my coursework, I have led and contributed to team projects ranging from supply chain analysis to systems design and data management, gaining hands-on experience with tools like Microsoft Access, Excel, and Project, and programming languages like Java and Python.
Currently, I serve as a civilian Security Specialist with the Air Force, managing information, personnel, and facility security, and several administrative and IT support programs for a large squadron. This role allows me to apply my academic learning in real-world contexts, particularly in areas like personnel security, information assurance, and process improvement. It also keeps me closely tied to the values of service and accountability that have defined much of my career.
Outside of work and school, I enjoy running, hiking, and exploring technology projects that sharpen my problem-solving skills. I take pride in being detail-oriented, adaptable, and committed to continuous learning. My long-term goal is to build a career in cybersecurity and information assurance, helping organizations protect their people and data while meeting regulatory and mission requirements.
